ACR FLT CREW DESCRIBED LNDG EVENT AT ORD WHEN CTLR REQUESTED UNREALISTIC SPEEDS ON SHORT FINAL AND WAS CONFUSED REGARDING ACFT LOCATION.
Narrative
OUTSIDE MARKER ON VECTORS TO THE FINAL; THE APCH CTLR ASKED FOR 180 KTS. WE COMPLIED; THE FREQ WAS BUSY AND SEVERAL TIMES THE XMISSIONS WERE BLOCKED. I HEARD A SPD REDUCTION CLRNC TO 170 KTS; BUT THE CALL SIGN WAS PARTIALLY BLOCKED. I READ BACK 'ACR X WILL SLOW TO 170 KTS.' THE CTLR THEN SAID 'NO; THAT WASN'T FOR YOU; IT WAS FOR SOMEONE ELSE.' HE SAID TO MAINTAIN 180 KTS; WE COMPLIED (WE NEVER SLOWED BELOW ABOUT 175 KTS AT THIS POINT). I ALSO ADDED THAT HIS XMISSION WAS PARTIALLY BLOCKED WHEN HE FIRST GAVE THE SPD REDUCTION TO 170 KTS. HE THEN GAVE THE 170 KT SPD TO THE ACR Y; A FLT JUST BEHIND US. 1 MI OUTSIDE THE MARKER; THE CAPT CALLED FOR THE GEAR DOWN AND THE FINAL DSCNT CHKLIST. I HAD JUST FINISHED READING THE CHKLIST AND WAS ABOUT TO SWITCH OVER TO THE TWR FREQ WHEN THE APCH CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE STILL ON FREQ. I SAID YES; AND HE SAID 'YOU SLOWED TOO EARLY.' WE SHOWED PASSING OVER THE MARKER BY ABOUT .2 MI. HE THEN SAID WE WEREN'T THERE YET. THEN HE SAID WE WERE 40 KTS SLOWER THAN THE GUY BEHIND US. I LOOKED AT THE SELECTED SPD AND IT STILL SAID 180 KTS. I THEN LOOKED AT MY AIRSPD AND IT STILL SAID ABOUT 170 KTS AND WE WERE NOW SLOWING TO OUR FINAL APCH SPD. THE CTLR THEN SAID TO GO TO THE TWR. I DID; AND WE WERE GOING THROUGH ABOUT 1100 FT AGL. THE TWR THEN REQUESTED WE KEEP THE SPD UP; 2 TIMES -- FIRST ABOUT 500 FT. WE LAND; AND THE GND CTLR SAYS TO CALL THE APCH CTLR. WE DID AS WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO DO BY APCH AND THE TWR. ALSO COMPLIED WITH OUR STABILIZED APCH CRITERIA. I SEE NO REASON FOR THE CALL.
