Narrative
THE CAPT AND I WERE COMING IN AROUND DUSK ON AN APCH INTO ZZZ WHEN I CALLED FOR FLAPS 8 DEGS TO BEGIN CONFIGURING FOR THE APCH PHASE. JUST AFTER THE FLAP LEVER WAS PULLED; WE NOTICED RIGHT AWAY THE PLANE WAS MAKING NO PITCH CHANGE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; THE FLAPS FAIL MESSAGE APPEARED LEADING US TO BELIEVE WE HAD A FLAP PROB. THE FLAPS FAILED IN A ZERO FLAP DETENT POS AS INDICATED BY THE FLT CTL PAGE. WE REQUESTED BOX PATTERN VECTORS TO RUN CHKLISTS AND CONTACT EVERYONE THAT NEEDED TO BE NOTIFIED ABOUT OUR SITUATION. ONCE THAT WAS TAKEN CARE OF; WE REQUESTED TO SWITCH TO A RWY OF GREATER LENGTH THAN THE ONE WE HAD ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO LAND ON AND ATC COMPLIED WITH OUR REQUEST. NO EMER WAS DECLARED BECAUSE THE CAPT AND I ASSESSED THAT THE PROB HAD BEEN TROUBLESHOT AND THAT ALL THAT WAS REQUIRED OF US; WAS TO FLY THE APCH AT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL SPD WHICH WASN'T GOING TO COMPROMISE SAFETY OF FLT. THE EVENT OCCURRED DUE TO A FLAP FAILURE WHICH ISN'T UNCOMMON IN THIS ACFT. AFTER RECALLING THE EVENT; ALL ACTIONS TAKEN BEFORE; DURING; AND AFTER WERE WITHIN PARAMETERS OF COMPANY SOPS.
