Synopsis

A MIS-PROGRAMMED SELF PARKING SYSTEM INCORRECTLY STOPPED AN A320 60' BEYOND ITS ASSIGNED SPACE AND CAUSED THE #1 ENGINE COWLING TO MISS THE JETWAY BY 6 INCHES.

Narrative

TAXIED TO LEAD IN LINE FOR GATE IN ZZZ. OBSERVED A SINGLE RAMPER RUNNING AROUND THE AREA MOVING CHOCKS AND PREPARING FOR OUR ARR. HE ACTIVATED THE ACCU-PARK SYS AND I CONTINUED TAXIING. I FOLLOWED HIS GUIDANCE VIA THE ACCU-PARK AND STOPPED THE ACFT WHEN DIRECTED. WE THEN NOTICED THE JETWAY DRIVER WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE JETWAY TO THE ACFT. EVENTUALLY; IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WE WERE PARKED ON THE WRONG SPOT AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO BE PUSHED BACK. I ESTIMATE WE WERE PUSHED BACK APPROX 60 FT TO THE PROPER STOP POINT FOR THE A320. AS WE WERE BEING PUSHED BACK; I NOTICED THAT WE HAD BEEN STOPPED ON THE STOP POINT FOR THE B777; A300; A330 ACFT. AFTER WE WERE FINALLY PARKED AT THE PROPER SPOT AND WERE UNLOADING OUR PAX; I SPOKE WITH THE PAX AGENT THAT HAD DRIVEN THE JETWAY AND SHE INFORMED ME THAT WE HAD MISSED STRIKING THE JETWAY WITH THE #1 COWL BY APPROX 6 INCHES. I WAS OF COURSE VERY SHOCKED TO HEAR THIS. I PHONED THE ON DUTY FLT MGR AND INFORMED HIM OF THESE EVENTS. HE TOLD ME HE WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH THE APPROPRIATE DEPTS.
