ASRS report 829157
Narrative
After a normal takeoff; the gear was selected up. The First Officer noticed the nose gear indication remained amber while the main gear were white. We received the 'gear disagreement' master warning shortly after the First Officer noticed the problem. As pilot flying; I continued flying the aircraft while the First Officer executed the abnormal checklist. At this time; I notified ATC of our problem and requested delay vectors. Once the Abnormal checklist was complete; and all 3 gear indicating down and locked; I transferred control to the First Officer and assumed pilot not flying duties. I then notified dispatch; operations; and informed the Flight Attendant and passengers of the problem. After all normal and abnormal checklists were completed; we returned for a normal landing. I advised our Flight Attendant we would land with an onboard emergency and also no abnormal procedures were anticipated. Since the gear was indicating a normal down and locked conditions; I elected not to declare an emergency but did request ARFF to stand by on the airfield. The cause of the gear malfunction is unknown. The post check did not reveal any problems or visual abnormalities with any of the landing gear. Supplemental information from ACN 829160: Shortly after takeoff; the Captain contacted me via non-emergency intercom call. He advised we would be retuning as he was receiving an indication that nose gear was not retracting. He said it would be a normal landing. However; he said it was an emergency. I asked how long until touchdown. He replied 10 minutes. I asked if he would be briefing the cabin. He said yes. I asked if I should read memory jogger he said no. He immediately advised the cabin we would be returning and gave the reason why. Since we had just taken off; everyone was seated and I had not observed any activity in the aircraft. I had not seen anyone remove personal items or electronics. I announced for everyone to make sure their seatbelts were securely fastened and to remain seated until the aircraft was at the gate and fasten seat belt was off. The Captain announced to the cabin there would be emergency vehicles on the runway. Just before landing I 829157 SYN
