Synopsis

Dispatcher had communications problems with emergency aircraft.

Narrative

I received a call from the flight. Crew advised they were making a rapid descent to 10000 FT and diverting to the most suitable airport. They stated they had a left bleed caution message and needed to talk to maintenance. I conferenced them with a Maintenance Controller as I tried to reference the aircraft indication in the QRH. After they had finished talking with Maintenance I advised them to standby. I then referenced the back library for the diversion airport information to verify they were diverting to a suitable airport and then I asked a Lead Dispatcher for a second opinion if it was the closest suitable airport. After receiving the info I tried to call the flight back several times with no success. I then decided to broadcast in the blind that I was planning for them to land in at their selected airport. They later stated they received this transmission but that I could not hear them. ACARS would have been helpful in this time limited situation. I could have received more info on the mechanical problem and provided them more information concerning the airport as far as aircraft performance and communications
