An A320 flight crew reported the First Officer's airspeed indicator failed on the takeoff roll. The Captain rejected the takeoff; and after returning to the gate the left main gear tire fuse plugs melted and the passengers were evacuated through the jetway.

Narrative

It was my leg to fly. On take off roll; the Captain announced '80 KTS thrust set'. I scanned my instruments and noticed that I had no airspeed indication. I announced 'I have no air speed'. The Captain elected to abort the take off. While decelerating I notified Tower that we were aborting and then notified the Flight Attendants and passengers to remain seated over the PA. We cleared the runway and decided to return to the gate. While we were on taxi back to the gate; we coordinated with ramp control to have the wheels chocked due to the hot brakes. We returned to the gate and waited for ramp personnel to chock the wheels. A few minutes later the ramp personnel notified us that the fuse plugs had blown and the left main tires were flat. Shortly after that; maintenance personnel boarded the aircraft and notified the Purser that the left main gear was smoking; and that she should get the passengers off the aircraft as soon as possible. She initiated an expeditious deplaning of the passengers through the jetway. No further event occurred. After maintenance determined that there was no further fire hazard; passengers were allowed to return to retrieve their belongings.
