An aircraft on a liaison mission from Getafe to Valencia crashed into a mountainside during its nighttime approach, resulting in no survivors.

What happened

During an evening liaison flight, a twin engine airplane departed from GetaFL Airbase with the intention of reaching Valencia. As the flight progressed toward Valencia Airport under conditions of darkness and restricted visibility, the aircraft impacted a mountain slope situated approximately 20 km west of the destination airport, in the vicinity of Chiva.

Search efforts located the wreckage the day after the impact. The accident resulted in 11 fatalities, with no survivors reported among the occupants.

Findings

Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor was controlled flight into terrain.

Probable cause

The aircraft flew into rising terrain during a nighttime approach under limited visibility conditions.
