What happened
During the final approach phase at Empuriabrava Airfield, the aircraft descended below the required altitude. This low approach caused the landing gear to strike the airfield's perimeter fence. Following the impact, the flight crew elected to divert the flight to Gerona-Costa Brava Airport.
The aircraft subsequently performed a landing on a runway treated with foam. While the aircraft came to a complete stop without further incident, the impact with the fence resulted in the aircraft being declared a total loss. There were no fatalities or injuries reported among the occupants during the event.
Findings
- The primary factor in the incident was the insufficient altitude maintained during the final approach to the runway.
