A military training flight crashed into a mountainside in the Palakkad region, resulting in the deaths of all ten crew members.

What happened

A military aircraft was conducting a scheduled training mission when it departed from Sulur Air Force Base in Tamil Nadu. During the flight, the weather conditions began to worsen significantly. In an attempt to navigate the deteriorating visibility and rising weather, the pilot-in-command initiated an ascent to reach a higher altitude.

While climbing through heavy cloud cover, the aircraft struck a mountain slope located within the Palakkad region. The impact resulted in the loss of the aircraft and all ten fatalities among the crew members on board.

Findings

The investigation into the crash determined that the accident was a result of controlled flight into terrain. The presence of thick clouds obscured the mountain slope, leading to the collision during the pilot's attempt to gain altitude.

Probable cause

The aircraft struck a mountainside during an attempt to climb through deteriorating weather and heavy cloud cover.
