An aircraft crashed into a hillside following a collision with a pylon during a missed approach at Poza Rica-Tuxpan-Tajin Airport.

What happened

During an approach to Poza Rica-Tuxpan-Tajin Airport, the flight crew encountered heavy fog that reduced visibility to levels below required minimums. While on short final for runway 08, the aircraft type struck a pylon situated approximately one kilometer before the start of the runway.

Following this impact, the crew attempted to execute a go-around procedure. During this maneuver, the plane collided with several trees and subsequently crashed into a hill located 8.8 km beyond the runway threshold. The impact resulted in a post-crash fire. There were seven fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.

Findings

  • The primary contributing factor was that visibility was below operational minima due to fog at the time of the accident.

The crew attempted a go-around in low visibility conditions, leading to a collision with a pylon and subsequent impact with terrain.
