20 fatalitiesSalvador, BrazilTakeoff (climb)

An engine failure during the initial climb led to a fatal crash shortly after takeoff from Salvador Airport, resulting in no survivors.

What happened

During the early stages of flight following departure from Salvador Airport, the aircraft experienced a mechanical malfunction involving one of its engines. As the plane was attempting to gain altitude, the loss of power caused the aircraft to enter a stall.

Following the stall, the plane descended into an open field located beyond the end of the runway. The impact resulted in the deaths of all 20 occupants on board, a group that included five children.

Findings

Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was an engine failure occurring during the climb phase immediately after takeoff.

Probable cause

The loss of power from an engine during the initial climb caused the aircraft to stall and crash.
