What happened
On a scheduled flight from Canoas AFB in Porto Alegre to Rio de Janeiro-Galeão Airport, a single-engine aircraft operated by the 5th Air Transport Squadron encountered severe weather while traversing the State of Santa Catarina. The flight, which included two pilots and six officers, was navigating through areas of restricted visibility at the time of the accident.
During the cruise phase of the flight, the aircraft struck a mountain located in the vicinity of Bom Jardim da Serra. The force of the collision caused the aircraft to disintegrate upon impact. There were 8 fatalities among the occupants, with no survivors reported from the crew or the passengers.
