What happened
On March 28, 2006, a Dornier 228-200, registration CS-AYT, operated by Aerocondor, was performing a scheduled passenger flight to Bragança Municipal Aerodrome. The aircraft was carrying two crew members and five passengers.
During the final phase of landing, the pilot flying noticed that the brakes were non-functional and that the hydraulic pressure indicator had dropped to zero. To maintain directional control without the use of brakes or nose wheel steering, the pilot utilized asymmetric engine power. Despite these emergency maneuvers, the aircraft drifted slightly off the asphalt. The right main gear sank into the runway shoulder, which had become soft and inconsistent due to recent rainfall. The aircraft came to a halt on the shoulder, sustaining minor damage to the landing gear, but there were no injuries to the crew or passengers.
The investigation
The GPIAAF investigation focused on the mechanical failure and the environmental conditions at the time of the incident. Maintenance inspections following the event identified a failure of the hydraulic power pack (P/N 6.8501.0003-4). The investigation also examined the runway conditions and the crew's adherence to emergency protocols. The investigation confirmed that the crew's actions were consistent with the aircraft's flight manual regarding loss of hydraulic pressure.
