Event Details
A single-engine airplane experienced a loss of engine power shortly after departure. The private pilot, who was the sole occupant, performed a forced landing in an open field. In a telephone interview with a Federal Aviation Administration inspector and the National Transportation Safety Board Investigator-in-Charge, the pilot reported that he had not checked the fuel quantity prior to departure and that the engine failure occurred due to fuel exhaustion.
