Pilot Overcorrects for Left Drift, Skids Off Runway During Crosswind Landing

Accident Details

The pilot was conducting touch-and-go landing practice when the incident occurred. The wind was reported as a 90-degree right crosswind at 11 knots, gusting to 15 knots. During the touchdown sequence, the right wing began to rise as the airplane drifted to the left.

Pilot Account

The pilot stated that he "overcorrected" for the left drift, which resulted in the airplane skidding off the right side of the runway. According to the pilot, the accident could have been prevented if he had increased his landing speed, used less than full wing flaps, and maintained directional control by keeping the upwind wing down longer during the landing.

Damage

The left wing sustained substantial damage when it struck a runway light during the skid.
