Accident Details

On June 13, 2008, at approximately 1930 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 150, registration N5471Q, crashed shortly after takeoff from Summerville Airport in Summerville, South Carolina. The flight was a ferry flight operated under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 without a flight plan. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed. The commercial pilot, the sole occupant, was not injured.

The pilot reported that the engine started without hesitation and he taxied to runway 24 for takeoff. After reaching the runway, the run-up indicated a fouled spark plug. Several minutes were spent clearing the fouled plug before the pilot proceeded with takeoff. He noted 2475 rpm on takeoff, but while passing through about 60 feet above the ground, the engine suddenly stopped producing power. Manipulating the throttle caused a momentary return of power, but the engine stopped again, leading the pilot to execute a forced landing straight ahead.

Post-Accident Inspection
