What happened
On August 21, 2008, at approximately 0530 local time, a Garlick UH-1D, registered CC-CKD, was destroyed following a descent into mountainous terrain. The accident occurred shortly after the aircraft departed from a helipad in Copiapo, Atacama Region, Chile. The flight was being conducted under night visual meteorological conditions (VMC) in accordance with Chilean flight regulations.
The pilot of the aircraft sustained one minor injury, and there were no fatalities.
