Accident Details
On October 26, 2008, at approximately 1425 central daylight time, a Cessna 180K, registered as N1846Z, experienced an accident during landing at Clark Airport (3T6) in Justin, Texas. The airplane was substantially damaged when it nosed over and impacted terrain. The personal flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91 without a flight plan. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time. The pilot, who held an airline transport pilot certificate, was the sole occupant and was not injured. The local flight originated at an undetermined time.
Pilot Statement
In his written report, the pilot stated that upon landing, the nose of the airplane pitched down, rendering the aircraft uncontrollable, and it subsequently tipped onto its back. The pilot also reported that he was unaware of the reason for the pitch-down. During a conversation with an FAA inspector, he remarked that he simply "lost it."
