Accident Details

On March 17, 2010, at approximately 1020 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 150F, registration N7854F, sustained substantial damage during a forced landing following a loss of engine power. The event occurred near Tillamook, Oregon. The commercial pilot and a passenger were not injured. The pilot, who was also the owner, operated the airplane under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the personal local flight, which had originated about 20 minutes before the accident. No flight plan had been filed.

Flight Sequence

The pilot reported taking off from Tillamook Airport on runway 13 and turning northward. As the airplane climbed to 2,000 feet above ground level, the engine's revolutions per minute began to decrease. The pilot applied carburetor heat but noted no effect. He then turned the airplane back toward the airport and aligned with runway 13 for landing. On short final, the pilot had to pull up to clear an airport perimeter fence. The airplane stalled from approximately 15 feet and landed on its nose in soft soil short of the runway. It nosed over and came to rest inverted.
