What happened
On June 13, 2010, at approximately 0900 UTC, a Swearingen SA226 Metro 11, operated by African Aviation Skies, was conducting an unscheduled commercial domestic flight. The aircraft, registration ZS-ZOC, was en route to Polokwane Aerodrome in Limpopo, South Africa.
During the approach to the destination, the crew discovered that the left main landing gear failed to extend. The crew elected to divert the flight back to Lanseria Aerodrome (FALA) in Johannesburg to perform a wheels-up landing.
All 14 passengers and 2 crewmembers were not injured. The aircraft sustained substantial damage during the landing, though no fire occurred.
