What happened

On August 8, 2010, a Piper PA-28-180, registration TI-AGR, was performing a departure from Tobias Bolaños Palma International Airport (MRPV) in Favorita Norte, Pavas, Costa Rica. During the climb, the pilot experienced a partial loss of engine power accompanied by smoke entering the cabin.

The pilot successfully returned to the airport and landed at MRPV. Following the landing, a fire was discovered within the engine compartment. The aircraft sustained substantial damage during the event. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.
