Accident Overview
On November 4, 2010, at approximately 2110 central standard time, a Siai-Marchetti S.205/22R, registration N971WA, was destroyed during a forced landing near Fruitvale, Texas. The airplane struck a power line and trees before impacting terrain after the engine lost power. The business flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91 without a flight plan. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed.
Flight History
The flight originated at Denton (DTO), Texas, and was en route to Shreveport (SHV), Louisiana. According to the pilot's accident report, earlier that day the airplane was serviced with 14 gallons of fuel at an unspecified location, with the gauges registering three-quarters full. The pilot then flew from SHV to DTO. At DTO, 20 gallons of fuel were added, and the pilot returned to SHV. At SHV, the airplane was serviced with 24 gallons of fuel, after which the pilot flew back to DTO to drop off his business partner. The pilot did not refuel at DTO before departing for SHV.
Engine Power Loss
En route back to SHV at an altitude of 7,500 feet, the engine lost power. The pilot stated that in his opinion, he "ran out of fuel." The subsequent forced landing resulted in the destruction of the aircraft and serious injury to the pilot, who was the sole occupant.
