Event Description
The pilot reported an uneventful landing on runway 33. During the landing rollout, application of brakes caused the airplane to veer off the right side of the runway, entering mud and dirt. In an attempt to free the aircraft, the pilot added full engine power to climb a small incline.
Sequence of Collisions
The airplane exited the muddy area, skidded across the ramp, and collided with a parked airplane and a hangar. Subsequently, the aircraft struck an embankment. During this sequence, the main landing gear collapsed.
Damage Assessment
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the lower fuselage and the right wing.
Environmental Conditions
Recorded wind at an airport located approximately 7 miles west of the accident site was from 160 degrees at 3 knots.
Mechanical Examination
An examination by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector found no preimpact mechanical malfunctions. The pilot also reported no preaccident mechanical failures that would have precluded normal operation.
