Accident Overview
On April 6, 2012, at 1550 coordinated universal time, a Robinson R-22 Beta II helicopter, registered OO-DTZ, was destroyed when it struck terrain near Huy, Belgium. A post-impact fire ensued. The pilot and one passenger sustained fatal injuries.
Flight Details
The helicopter, owned and operated by Bedrijfswagens Degroote N.V., had departed from Namur-Suarlée Airfield (EBNM) in Namur, Belgium, approximately at 1500.
Sequence of Events
According to reports received by Belgian investigators, the helicopter was observed hovering in proximity to cableway cables. Subsequently, the aircraft collided with the cables and then impacted the ground.
