Incident Overview
The accident occurred while the airplane was landing on runway 27. During the landing roll, the airplane began to veer to the right. The certified flight instructor (CFI) attempted to assume control of the airplane and correct the drift, but the student pilot did not relinquish the controls.
Sequence of Events
As a result of the continued drift, the airplane departed the runway surface. It subsequently entered a ditch, nosed over, and came to rest in approximately three feet of water. The left wing sustained substantial damage during the event.
Examination Findings
A post-accident examination revealed no preexisting mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation. No other contributing factors were identified in the investigation.
