What happened
On September 5, 2012, an Aeromexico Boeing 737-800, registration XA-JOY, was performing a landing roll at Benito Juárez Mexico City International Airport (MMMX) in Mexico City, Mexico. During the landing roll, the aircraft experienced heavy vibrations. These vibrations caused multiple ceiling panels and passenger service units to detach and fall in the aft cabin.
Following the flight, an examination revealed that most of the left winglet had fractured, with pieces recovered on the runway. The aircraft sustained minor damage. There were no injuries to the passengers or crew members onboard.
