Accident Overview

On October 27, 2012, at about 1235 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna P210N (registration N43CE) experienced a landing gear collapse during the landing roll at Oakland Metropolitan International Airport (OAK), California. The aircraft was operating under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The private pilot, who was the sole occupant, was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the personal flight, which originated from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), Utah, at about 1100 mountain daylight time.

Pilot Actions and Gear Extension

The pilot reported extending the landing gear to the down position during the approach, approximately five miles from the airport. As the gear extended, he heard the sound of the gear motor and felt a pitch change in the airplane. However, he did not check whether the green landing gear position indicator light was illuminated and did not visually confirm that the landing gear was down and locked.
