The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing during the initial landing, and additional substantial damage to the left wing and empennage when it came to rest inverted about 20 feet from the road surface.

Details of Flight

The flight was the return leg of the pilot's first solo cross-country flight, operated under 14 CFR Part 91. A visual flight rules flight plan had been filed but was unopened. The destination was Bremerton National Airport (PWT), Bremerton, Washington. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed.

About 20 minutes into the flight, while at an altitude of approximately 3,500 feet above ground level (agl), the weather began to deteriorate.
