Incident Summary
The pilot reported that the engine lost power while the aircraft was en route to the destination airport. Attempts to restart the engine were unsuccessful. The pilot executed a forced landing onto a nearby street. During the landing roll, the aircraft collided with a chain link fence. The collision resulted in substantial damage to the engine firewall, undercarriage, and tail sections of the aircraft.
Fuel Examination
Following the accident, an examination of the fuel system was conducted. The fuel tanks were found to be intact with no breaches. The total fuel remaining in both tanks was 1.5 gallons. According to the Cessna pilot operating handbook, 3.0 gallons of fuel are classified as unusable. This indicates that the usable fuel quantity was zero, as the actual fuel onboard was less than the unusable volume.
Mechanical Findings
The investigation revealed no evidence of preexisting mechanical anomalies that would have prevented normal operation of the aircraft. The engine and associated systems were examined, and no malfunctions that could explain the power loss were identified. The only notable finding was the low fuel quantity.
