Accident Details
On September 9, 2013, at approximately 0940 UTC, a Dornier 228-202K, registration CC-CNW, was destroyed after impacting power lines and terrain while on approach to Viña del Mar Airfield (NAS Base Aeronaval Viña del Mar), Chile. The flight had originated from Los Pelambres Airfield in Cuncumen, Coquimbo, Chile.
Occupant Injuries
The commercial pilot and copilot sustained fatal injuries. The aircraft was destroyed.
Meteorological Conditions
Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. Fog was present as the aircraft attempted to land.
Navigational Aids
The Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Viña del Mar was reported to be inoperable at the time of the accident.
Contributing Circumstances
