Incident Overview

The pilot of a single-engine airplane conducted a short-field takeoff from a 2,350-foot runway bordered by trees at the departure end. Before departure, an engine run-up showed no anomalies, and the pilot set the wing flaps to 10 degrees for takeoff.

Sequence of Events
