2014 Air Tractor AT-802A Forced Landing Near Oneida, Arkansas (N802PR)

Accident Overview and Aircraft Details On June 7, 2014, at 1000 central daylight time, an Air Tractor Inc. AT-802A, registration N802PR, experienced a total loss of engine power while returning from an aerial application operation near Oneida, Arkansas. The aircraft was registered to A & L Farm Services Inc and operated by 4R Aviation LLC under 14 CFR Part 137. The flight was not operating on a flight plan, and visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The aircraft sustained substantial damage after nosing over during a forced landing, while the pilot was uninjured. ## Sequence of Events The pilot reported landing at a remote airstrip near Oneida, Arkansas, where the aircraft was loaded with an undetermined amount of fuel and urea fertilizer. After loading, the left fuel gauge indicated between empty and one-quarter full, and the right fuel gauge indicated slightly more than one-quarter full. The aircraft then departed for a rice field, where the pilot made several passes applying fertilizer. During the final pass, the engine momentarily lost power at both the beginning and end of the field. The pilot dumped the remaining fertilizer on a corn field east of the rice field and began returning to the airstrip. Approximately one-half to three-quarters of a mile from the airstrip, the engine lost power completely. The pilot activated the fuel boost pump, but the engine did not regain power. Determining that the aircraft lacked sufficient airspeed and altitude to reach the airstrip, the pilot executed a forced landing in a wheat field. The aircraft made a three-point landing and rolled into a muddy section of the field, where it nosed over. ## Post-Accident Findings During post-accident recovery, approximately 1.5 gallons of fuel were drained from the aircraft. No evidence of fuel spillage was found at the accident site.
