What happened
On May 9, 2014, a navigator aboard an E-3A AWACS aircraft reported an airspace violation within the TSA 05E temporary reserved area. The intrusion was identified by the crew during active operations within the zone. According to the report from the Air Traffic Services Center, the presence of the unidentified aircraft did not create an immediate threat to the safety of other flights operating within the reserved airspace.
The investigation
The PKBWL investigation focused on identifying the aircraft and its crew involved in the unauthorized entry. Despite the investigation efforts, the commission was unable to identify the pilot of the aircraft that entered the TSA 05E zone.
