Accident Details
According to the pilot's report, the accident occurred during the fifth landing of the morning in a tailwheel-equipped airplane. The previous four landings had been conducted at a nearby airport without incident. On the accident approach, the pilot reported a right quartering headwind and maintained a normal approach speed, executing a three-point landing technique.
During the landing rollout, the airplane began to drift to the right. The pilot applied left rudder to correct the drift. As the airplane neared the edge of the paved surface, the pilot applied brake pressure. Subsequently, the airplane nosed over and came to rest inverted. The accident resulted in substantial damage to the rudder.
The pilot stated that there were no mechanical malfunctions or abnormalities that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot reported the winds at the airport as 340 degrees at 5 knots. A nearby weather station recorded winds around the time of the accident as 290 degrees at 5 knots.
