What happened
On September 6, 2014, an unauthorized paraglider flight occurred within the MATZ EPMB airspace. The air traffic controller at the EPMB tower was notified via telephone regarding the presence of a paraglider operating in the northern section of the controlled zone, specifically between point "N" and the aerodrome. At the time the paraglider's presence was reported, there was no other aircraft operating within the MATZ EPMB airspace.
The investigation
The PKBWL investigation focused on identifying the operator and determining the circumstances that led to the airspace infringement. Despite the efforts of the commission, the identity of the paraglider pilot could not be established.
Findings
- The investigation determined that the primary cause of the incident was a navigational error by the paraglider pilot.
- This error resulted in the unauthorized penetration of the MATZ EPMB controlled airspace.
