Incident Overview
On March 5, 2015, at 1102 eastern standard time, Delta Air Lines Flight 1086, a Boeing MD-88 registered as N909DL, was landing on runway 13 at LaGuardia Airport in New York, New York. During the landing rollout, the airplane departed the left side of the runway, contacted the airport perimeter fence, and came to rest with its nose on an embankment adjacent to Flushing Bay.
Occupant Injuries
The flight crew consisted of two pilots and three flight attendants. Of the 127 passengers on board, 98 were not injured. The remaining 29 passengers sustained minor injuries. All crew members were uninjured.
Aircraft Damage
The MD-88 sustained substantial damage as a result of the runway excursion and fence impact.
Flight Details
Flight 1086 was a regularly scheduled passenger flight from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, to LaGuardia Airport. The flight operated under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121 and had filed an instrument flight rules flight plan. At the time of the accident, instrument meteorological conditions prevailed.
