What happened

On April 21, 2015, a Boeing 737-400 operated by Shaheen Air International (SAI) experienced a failure of its No. 1 (left) engine. The incident occurred while the aircraft, registration AP-BJT, was climbing through an altitude of 3,200 feet.

The flight crew reported hearing a loud bang and observed high exhaust gas temperature on the No. 1 engine, which is a CFMI CFM56-3C1 turbofan. Following the event, the crew shut down the engine and returned the aircraft to Islamabad International Airport (OPRN). The aircraft completed a successful single-engine landing. There were no injuries resulting from the event.
