What happened
On June 5, 2015, an ERJ 190 was performing a descent for landing at Warsaw Chopin Airport (EPWA). During this phase of the flight, a member of the cabin crew reported feeling unwell. In response to the medical emergency, the crew provided necessary medical assistance and administered oxygen to the affected individual.
To ensure the continued safety of the flight, the duties of the incapacitated crew member were reassigned to another member of the cabin crew. The flight crew notified air traffic control of the situation and requested that medical assistance be waiting on the ground upon arrival. Following a safe landing, the crew member was able to disembark the aircraft unaided and was subsequently transported to a medical facility for further care.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by the operator, established that the flight proceeded to landing with a crew complement smaller than the minimum required by the operator's operational manual due to the physical incapacity of the crew member.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was the sudden illness of a cabin crew member.
