Accident Details
On December 19, 2015, at approximately 1555 central standard time, a Cessna 182J, registered as N2694F, experienced a runway excursion while landing on runway 26 at RWJ Airpark (54T), near Baytown, Texas. The aircraft sustained substantial damage. The pilot reported minor injuries, while the passenger sustained serious injuries. The aircraft was registered to and operated by the pilot under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and the flight was not conducted on a flight plan. The flight originated from Del Rio International Airport, Del Rio, Texas, at about 1225.
Pilot Report
According to the pilot, while performing a crosswind landing on runway 26, the left wing of the airplane rose, with the nose and right main wheels remaining on the runway. The pilot made a correction to bring all three wheels onto the runway, but afterward the airplane was no longer aligned with the runway. The airplane then exited the side of the runway into the grass. The nose landing gear dug into the muddy grass, causing the airplane to nose over. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures of the airplane prior to the accident.
