What happened
On August 3, 2015, at approximately 20:00, a motor glider was operating in the vicinity of Góra Kalwaria when the engine ceased functioning. Following the loss of power, the pilot attempted an emergency landing on a sandy island located within the Vistula River, near the DK50 road bridge. The aircraft's landing roll continued into the river current. The pilot was not injured during the incident, and no damage to the aircraft was reported.
The investigation
The PKBWL conducted its investigation based on official information provided by the Police. The investigation established that the individual operating the aircraft did not possess a valid motor glider pilot certificate at the time of the event. Furthermore, the pilot failed to report the occurrence through the mandatory aviation incident reporting system.
Findings
Due to the lack of a formal report from the pilot regarding the specific circumstances and sequence of the flight, the investigation could not determine a probable cause for the engine failure.
