What happened
On July 4, 2015, a tandem parachute jump took place at the EPKB landing field in Kazimierz Biskupi. The jump involved a Sigma2-340 tandem parachute operated by SKY CAMP. The passenger participating in the jump suffered from paralysis of the lower limbs, and specialized restraint straps were utilized to maintain the passenger's body position during the descent.
While the jump proceeded normally for the duration of the flight, the situation changed immediately prior to touchdown. The parachute entered a zone of strong downdraft. Despite the instructor's attempts to compensate by pulling the control lines, the downward air current caused a hard landing. As a result of the impact, the passenger sustained serious injuries.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by the jump organizer, examined the atmospheric conditions at the time of the landing and the physical setup of the passenger. The inquiry focused on the impact of the downward air current on the landing stability and the effectiveness of the restraint measures used for the passenger with physical impairments.
