What happened
On July 14, 2016, a Boeing 737-800 was involved in a runway incursion at GCTS. Following pushback from the parking stand, the crew received instructions to taxi to taxiway B3 and stop before the holding point for runway 08. Due to ongoing construction on the taxiways, the taxi route differed from standard procedures, a change that had been communicated via airport information cards and a NOTAM, both of which the crew had reviewed prior to flight.
While taxiing to taxiway B3, the aircraft stopped with its nose gear having crossed the holding point line. Simultaneously, an aircraft on final approach was instructed by Air Traffic Control (ATC) to execute a go-around. Following this, the crew of the Boelement 737-800 was cleared to enter the runway and proceed to taxiway B2, eventually stopping before the B0 holding point. The aircraft was subsequently cleared for takeoff after the landing aircraft had completed its missed approach. The controller did not inform the crew of the reasons for the go-around or issue a warning regarding the line overrun.
The investigation
The investigation, conducted by the operator, examined the crew's statements and the sequence of taxiing instructions. The inquiry focused on the crew's adherence to the modified taxi instructions and the communication between ATC and the flight crew during the incident.
