During landing, a wind shift caused the airplane to settle; after applying full power, the left main gear contacted the runway edge, and the airplane struck trees, resulting in substantial wing damage.

Accident Report

According to the pilot's report, the landing attempt was being conducted with full flaps deployed when a wind shift occurred. The pilot applied full power in response, but the airplane continued to settle. The left main landing gear then made contact with the left edge of the runway. Subsequently, the airplane departed the runway and impacted trees on the left side.

Aircraft Damage

The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings. The pilot reported that no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions were present that would have precluded normal operation.

Weather Conditions

The pilot stated that the wind was light and variable, and the landing was performed on runway 19. The automated weather observation system located approximately 9 nautical miles from the accident site reported, around the time of the accident, wind from 220° at 7 knots.
