Incident Overview
A flight instructor was demonstrating a full aerodynamic stall landing to a student pilot in gusty crosswind conditions. According to the instructor, the aircraft crossed the runway threshold at an altitude of approximately two feet. The stall warning sounded, and then a strong wind gust lifted the aircraft to about six feet while the stall warning continued. The instructor immediately applied power to initiate a go-around, but the gust subsided. Subsequently, the left wing dropped, contacted the terrain, and the airplane nosed over.
Damage Assessment
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage, right wing, and vertical stabilizer.
Weather Conditions
An automated weather observation station located 17 nautical miles southwest of the accident site reported wind from 110 degrees at 12 knots around the time of the accident. The landing was being conducted on runway 36. The instructor characterized the conditions as "stiff" gusting crosswind.
Mechanical Factors
The flight instructor did not report any preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Reporting Note
The flight instructor failed to submit the NTSB Form 6120.1 Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident/Incident Report as required.
