Accident Overview

On September 9, 2017, at approximately 1500 central daylight time, a twin-engine Cessna 340, registration N5870M, suffered a landing gear collapse after landing at McKinney National Airport (KTKI) in McKinney, Texas. The commercial-rated pilot and one passenger were not injured. The airplane sustained substantial damage.

Flight and Aircraft Information

The airplane was registered to and operated by Holubar Properties, Inc., of McKinney, Texas, under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a cross-country flight. Visual meteorological conditions were present at the time of the accident.

Accident Sequence

According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector, the airplane landed on runway 36. During the landing rollout, the left main landing gear collapsed.

Examination Findings

An examination of the airplane revealed substantial damage to the aileron. The left main landing gear down-lock and bell crank pivot bolt were found broken.

Maintenance Manual Requirements

A review of the Cessna 340 maintenance manual showed that the landing gear system must be disassembled and inspected after 20 years (or 10,000 landings) and subsequently every 10 years (or 5,000 landings).
