Incident Overview
On June 17, 2018, at approximately 0730 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 172 airplane, registration N734RS, experienced a loss of directional control while landing at Fullerton Municipal Airport (KFUL) in Fullerton, California. The subsequent runway excursion resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft.
Flight Details
The airplane was registered to RI Flying Club Inc. and was operated by the pilot without their knowledge or consent. The flight was conducted under visual flight rules as a Part 91 operation, and no flight plan had been filed. The pilot, a non-solo endorsed student pilot, was not injured.
Investigation
The investigation of this event is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) provided requested technical assistance to the FBI. Any material generated by the NTSB is under the control of the FBI. The NTSB does not plan to issue a report or open a public docket for this occurrence.
