Accident Overview
On February 21, 2019, about 1430 mountain standard time, a Tecnam P92, registration N108TE, was substantially damaged in an accident near Englewood, Colorado. The airplane was conducting a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The flight instructor received serious injuries, while the student pilot was not injured.
Flight Details
According to the flight instructor, during the student pilot’s initial climb from runway 35, the airplane would not climb or maintain a climbing attitude. The instructor took control, retracted the flaps, and reduced the attitude to gain airspeed. Due to a loss of engine power, the instructor turned to land on runway 10. During the turn, the airplane descended rapidly and impacted a taxiway sign. The impact resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage and separation of the engine from the airplane.
Wreckage Examination
The wreckage was sold and moved by the insurance company before investigators could conduct a thorough examination. Subsequently, the wreckage was exported to Brazil, and further information about the airplane could not be obtained.
