Incident Overview
On October 17, 2019, at about 1740 Alaska daylight time, PenAir flight 3296, a Saab 2000 aircraft registered as N686PA, overran the runway while landing at Thomas Madsen Airport (PADU) in Unalaska, Alaska. The aircraft subsequently passed through the airport perimeter fence, crossed a road, and came to rest on shoreline rocks.
Occupants and Injuries
The flight was a regularly scheduled domestic passenger operation under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121. On board were 42 passengers and crewmembers. One passenger sustained fatal injuries, while several other passengers received serious or minor injuries.

The airplane sustained substantial damage as a result of the overrun and subsequent impact with terrain and obstacles.
