What happened
On September 19, 2020, a Fusioncopter JK-2 NANO gyroplane, registered as SP-ULPD, experienced an engine failure while flying at an altitude of approximately 100 meters. Upon noticing the engine shutdown, the pilot attempted to restart the powerplant while in flight, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
Following the loss of engine power, the pilot decided to perform an emergency landing at a nearby landing site in Karczew. During the landing sequence, the aircraft made contact with the ground and subsequently overturned onto its right side. The impact caused damage to the rotor, propeller, transparent canopy, and the overall airframe. The pilot sustained no injuries and was able to exit the aircraft unassisted.
The investigation
The PKBWL examined the final report submitted by the aircraft operator regarding the incident. The investigation focused on the sequence of events leading from the engine failure to the rollover and evaluated the execution of the emergency landing procedures.
