Cirrus SR20 Destroyed in Indianapolis, Indiana (N99EC)

Accident Overview and Flight Path On January 24, 2023, at approximately 1539 eastern standard time, a Cirrus SR20 airplane, registration N99EC, was destroyed in an accident near Indianapolis, Indiana. The aircraft was operating as a personal flight under Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The pilot sustained fatal injuries. According to automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data, the aircraft departed Indianapolis Executive Airport around 1526. After takeoff, it turned left, climbed to approximately 1,000 feet above ground level, and proceeded southeast past downtown Indianapolis. Near the end of the ADS-B data, south of downtown, the aircraft executed a 360-degree left turn and entered a rapid descent. A residential surveillance camera recorded the impact sequence, showing the aircraft striking the ground in a nose and right-wing low attitude. No witnesses were present at the scene.
